Great Bear isn’t a large commercial heli‑ski outfit: it’s a boutique, hand‑crafted wilderness experience with an unwavering focus on curation, quality, and connection.
It’s also the only heli‑skiing operation in North America that is owned and operated by women. Founded by Mandi Blewett and her daughters after a life‑altering flood reshaped their land, the lodge is open only 12 weeks a year and hosts a maximum of 12 guests, ensuring every moment is personal and highly attentive.
A typical day begins quietly, not with alarms, but with a freshly brewed cup of coffee delivered to your room before a hearty breakfast of freshly baked goods, seasonal fruit, and chef‑prepared favourites.
Every day begins with meticulous planning: weather conditions, snow quality, and terrain are all assessed to tailor the experience to the group. Helicopter drops provide access to an expansive 6,225-square-kilometer tenure, offering everything from glacial descents to open powder bowls and perfectly spaced tree runs. The guides adapt the terrain to suit skill levels, combining adventure with precision and care.
Lunches are served in the field at scenic spots, featuring hot dishes like soup or curry, alongside charcuterie, cheeses, and warm beverages.
Back at the lodge, the rhythm shifts to relaxation and connection. Heli skiers are greeted with a signature cocktail and warm après‑ski snacks, then invited to unwind in the cedar hot tub, wood‑fired sauna, or enjoy a massage.
Dinner back at the lodge elevates the experience further, with locally sourced ingredients transformed into dishes such as BC sablefish, duck confit, and ranch-raised lamb, complemented by desserts crafted by Zoe Blewett. Unlike most other operators, Great Bear Heli-Skiing includes medical and evacuation insurance, all beverages (beer, wine, cocktails), and a minimum of two 60-minute massages from a Registered Massage Therapist. All trips include a private charter plane from YVR and seamless helicopter transfers directly into the lodge.
