Viking Heliskiing is a fully family-owned and operated company, run by two Icelandic families. Founded by Björgvin and Jóhann — lifelong friends and highly respected mountain guides in the region — the company is built on more than a decade of shared guiding experience. Their deep connection to the land, local community, and Icelandic heritage is at the core of everything we do. When you ski with us, you are not simply a guest; you become part of our story.

They are the only operator in Iceland using the vertical feet system — the gold standard in heliskiing. You pay for the skiing you do, not for helicopter flight time. That means more transparency, more runs, and more epic days on the mountain — with the flexibility to add more vertical when conditions allow.

Their vertical drop is up to 1.500m or approximately 4.500 ft. in the unbelievable Arctic mountains.

In the Classic programs they normally ski 18,000 – 25,000 vertical feet each day. And when conditions are right and you’re keen to keep going, the mountain sets the limit—not the program.

SIGLO HOTEL

Known as one of the best hotels in Iceland, Sigló Hotel welcomes our guests with its comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. All rooms have ocean and mountain views and a window seat where you can enjoy watching the local life passing by. Rooms are furnished with romantic and classic furniture, with wooden panels and flooring. All guests have access to the spacious outdoor hot tub and sauna area.

The hotel restaurant, Sunna, is one of the most ambitious restaurants in North Iceland. At Sunna, our guests will enjoy a delicious three-course dinner every night, inspired by local traditional cuisine.

PICTURESQUE TOWN

When it comes to heliskiing, location is everything. That is why we made Siglufjörður our base. Siglufjörður is Iceland’s northernmost town, surrounded by spectacular views of the towering mountains and the Arctic Ocean. It is only 25 km from the Arctic Circle. But what makes it truly special for us is that it’s surrounded by the very mountains and terrain we use for heliskiing.

This charming town, with a cheerful collection of brightly colored houses, has a rich history deeply entwined with the once-booming herring industry of the 1940s and 1950s. It is famous for its annual Herring Festival (Síldarævintýrið), a celebration that takes place every year in August.

In Siglufjörður you will find the award-winning Herring Era Museum that captures the town’s past ‘golden era’. You will also find the famous Sigló Hotel, art galleries, a bakery, shops, a local micro-brewery, pharmacy, restaurants, and more. In the winter season, Siglufjörður is a popular ski destination.

In 2010, the dual Héðinsfjörður Tunnels (11 km) were dug between Siglufjörður and Ólafsfjörður to connect with the region of Eyjafjörður in the east. Prior to that, accessing the town during the winter months was often challenging. Today, Siglufjordur has grown into a community with an established tourism, all year around.
