Ski the Tasman offers the opportunity to ski deep into the heart of Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, with access to the spectacular Tasman Glacier by helicopter.

The experience combines two long glacier descents with incredible alpine scenery, surrounded by Aoraki Mt Cook, Mt Tasman and the Southern Alps. Far removed from the crowds of a ski resort, you'll spend the time exploring one of New Zealand's most extraordinary natural environments.

With relatively moderate terrain and professional mountain guides, Ski the Tasman is an accessible way to experience glacier and backcountry skiing, while still offering the scale and adventure of a true alpine experience.

Guided by alpine guides since the 1970s. They are Mt Cook's original, and NZ's most experienced mountain and ski guiding team.

-Classic Ski the Tasman – Two long guided ski runs on the Tasman Glacier, accessed by helicopter.

-Ski the Tasman from Queenstown – The Classic Ski the Tasman experience with return transport from Queenstown, allowing you to experience the glacier as a day trip from Queenstown.

-Private Ski the Tasman – A private experience for your group, offering greater flexibility with the day's itinerary and mountain experience.

Southern Alps – The Tasman Glacier is located in the Southern Alps beneath Aoraki Mt Cook and Mt Tasman, surrounded by some of New Zealand's most spectacular alpine peaks.

Ability

Ski the Tasman is suitable for confident intermediate skiiers who are comfortable skiing blue and ungroomed terrain.

Previous heli-skiing or backcountry experience is not required. The terrain is generally moderate, making this an excellent introduction to glacier skiing for guests who want to experience skiing beyond the resort.

Guests should be fit enough to ski for several hours in an alpine environment and confident skiing variable snow conditions.

The Terrain

The Tasman Glacier provides a spectacular setting for long, flowing descents through the Southern Alps.

With two runs of approximately 8–10 kilometres each, the experience offers significantly more vertical and distance than a typical resort run. The terrain is generally open and moderate, with the surrounding glacier landscape providing dramatic ice formations, crevasses and towering alpine peaks.
