Why Harris Mountains

For more than 45 years, we have expertly guided skiers and snowboarders to the finest snow and most diverse terrain that the South Island has to offer. Creating unforgettable memories for our guests in this winter wonderland. Our guides bring a wealth of experience coming from exceptional adventure careers, carrying a profound passion for the mountain environment. With exclusive access to an unparalleled landscape, our terrain boasts over 400 exhilarating ski runs, spanning 11 distinct mountain ranges, each crowned with more than 200 peaks. This expansive playground stretches over 3,000 square kilometers of snow-covered terrain, offering an adventure like no other.

The Terrain

Our expansive terrain covers a variety of mountain ranges, each providing a unique experience and influenced differently by the prevailing snow and weather conditions. These variations enable us to tailor your heli-ski day to match your skill and experience level, minimising risks while maximising your powder adventure. Many of our top skiing locations are located deep in the backcountry, and we go the extra mile to ensure you reach the best and deepest snow.

With 400 runs. 200 peaks. 11 mountain ranges and from Queenstown to Wanaka to Mount Cook, we have thousands of square kilometers of your potential dream lines, with runs ranging from 2,000 to 3,500 vertical feet (or 600 to 1,000 meters, depending on where you call home).

With something for every skill level, here's a taste of what's waiting for you out there:

Big Bowls & Basins

Like making wide, lazy turns on mellow slopes? You can. Like skiing powder in steeper basins? You can do that, too.

Lake Views

Imagine skiing the Buchanan mountain range outside Wanaka with the lake glistening below under a bluebird sky. Or imagine riding in the Southern Remarkables with Queenstown's Lake Wakatipu stretching out in the distance. Epic.

Glaciers

How many people can say they've left tracks on a glacier? We can take you to the Zodiac or Scorpion Glaciers in Mount Cook, so you can become one of those people.

Chutes & Couloirs

Maybe you have a thing for jump turns. That's cool. When avalanche conditions permit, we've got a couloir or two (or several) for you. The best part: if you'd like to round out your day with mellow powder turns, our diversity of terrain ensures that we can get you those, too.

Exclusive Terrain

Most of our terrain is exclusive to Harris Mountain Heliski, which means you never have to worry about someone else leaving tracks down your dream line. And with so many bowls, snowy ridges, and powder basins to choose from, we can always find you the best snow based on the conditions.

The bottom line: we want your tracks on our terrain. From beginner cruisers to advanced runs, we've got it all.

Typical Day

Early in the morning, we check the weather and then contact you to confirm the heli-ski trip is on, and to set a meeting or pickup time. You will make your way to our staging area via your own transport or from our pick up locations, where you're introduced to your pilot, guide and fellow heli-skiers.

A safety briefing is given covering avalanche transceivers, helicopter and mountain safety. Then you fly off to the day's first heli-ski run. All heli-ski groups meet together for a picnic lunch and some downtime to relax and talk about the morning's action.

After that, it's back to the ultimate ski experience - more heli-ski runs to finish off your perfect day in the mountains. At the end of the day, we take you back to the staging area where you can make your way back to your accommodation for a well-deserved rest or a quick change before your après ski evening.
