Ability

Most safaris involve daily walking and nature trekking over uneven Arctic terrain, often combined with specially equipped ATVs or other safari vehicles. You should be comfortable spending several hours outdoors in variable weather and walking on uneven ground.

Some programs, particularly the winter and photography-focused expeditions, require greater tolerance for long periods outdoors and challenging Arctic conditions.

About the Lodges

Churchill Wild's three remote ecolodges are located directly in polar bear country along the Hudson Bay coast.

Seal River Heritage Lodge sits near the Seal River estuary, around 60 km north of Churchill. In summer, thousands of beluga whales gather nearby, while polar bears frequent the coastline later in the season.

Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge is the most remote of the three, around 250 km southeast of Churchill. Located where the Hudson Bay coast meets the Boreal Forest, it offers the chance to encounter polar bears alongside wolves, black bears and moose.

Dymond Lake Ecolodge is located just 30 km north of Churchill, offering a more intimate wilderness experience with opportunities to see polar bears, moose, Arctic wildlife and the Northern Lights.

Each lodge offers comfortable ensuite guest rooms, a cozy communal lounge with fireplace, dining areas, viewing decks and towers, Wi-Fi and full-service meals.

July & August

The best choice for combining polar bears with beluga whales and experiencing the Arctic in summer.

September – November

The classic fall experience, with increasingly active polar bears, changing tundra, snow and opportunities to see the Northern Lights.

February – March

Specialized winter expeditions offer a much rarer Arctic experience, including polar bears, wolves and Northern Lights.
