We spoke with the team at Crescent Spur Heli Skiing to understand the best times of year to plan a heli-ski trip and what you might typically expect.
Crescent Spur’s season is thoughtfully structured into three distinct phases: Early Season, High Season, and Spring Season. Each offers its own benefits depending on your priorities and skiing style.

Early Season (December–January)
Early season brings frequent storms and lots of fresh snow. The Crescent Spur guides tell us this period rewards guests with excellent tree skiing and open subalpine terrain, as winter settles in and snow builds up on low-angle slopes.
This is a great choice if you’re seeking classic deep powder and plenty of untouched lines before the busiest part of the season.

High Season (January–March)
High season is when Crescent Spur’s terrain opens fully. According to the team, this is when you’ll find the greatest variety of runs from glacier bowls and open alpine to gladed forests.
Mid-winter storms can bring significant snowfall, creating consistently soft, surfy conditions that many heli-skiers dream about.

Spring Season (March–April)
Spring offers longer days and extended daylight. The guides explained that this time of year allows for expanded access to alpine and glacier terrain, as snow has settled enough to safely reach higher elevations.
Storms still roll through, often followed by clear, sunny days... perfect for scenic mountain picnics and relaxed powder laps.
